Camp Achor 2024 | June 23rd-30th
We would like to invite you to attend Camp Achor, an old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, Baptist camp meeting hosted by South Side Baptist Tabernacle in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Spirit-filled preaching and singing, as well as good food and godly fellowship are enjoyed by hundreds every year under a giant tent on the church property. Since 1973, Camp Achor has been encouraging and refreshing the saints of God. Every year, pastors and church members alike bring their entire families for a time of genuine spiritual renewal.

This year we will be back under the tent! Our preachers for the week are:  Maury Gibson, Bob Harbin, Danny Long, Dave McCracken and Rob Pelkey. Special music will be provided by the SSBT choir, various SSBT singing groups and Pam Long. Services will be held at 10:00 am, 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

Again this year, we have planned to have two special dinner meals on Tuesday and Thursday.  We hope you will consider attending Camp Achor this year.

The pavilion has been approved

AND PAID FOR!

Praise the Lord! We have been approved to build a 60' x 90' pavilion on our 30 acre property for Camp Achor!  The total cost to build the pavilion will cost roughly $90,000.  This price includes the wood, the concrete needed for the posts, the shingles, and the gravel for under the pavilion.  The full $90,000 has been raised to pay for the pavilion.

History

In 1973, Pastor Duane Rutherford started an old fashioned Baptist camp meeting. Camp Achor's early years were held in a field adjacent to the old church building at 2069 Tyler Road.

In 1976, South Side Baptist was able to buy 30 acres on the corner of Stony Creek and Textile Road. It was the church's prayer and aspiration that one day the church and camp would exist on that same property. 

In 1996, 23 years after the purchase of the property, God answered those prayers and South Side embarked on the building of their new building at 6710 Textile Road. 

Today, the camp and church exist on the same property.  There is power in prayer!

For years, the three R's, reading, 'riting, and 'rithmetic shaped the minds of young lives throughout our country. At Camp Achor, we hope to influence our country by reviving a love for God in the ears of young and old alike using our own set of "3 R's": 

Renewal
Camp Achor provides a place where saints of God can relax from the daily cares of life thereby recharging their spiritual batteries and renewing their zeal to serve the Master.

Relationships
Camp Achor provides opportunities for fellowship and friendship with other Christian families and servants of God, but emphasizes a rekindling of a right relationship with the Friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Reverence
Camp Achor provides music, teaching and preaching that lifts up the holiness and power of God, thus providing an atmosphere of spiritual worship and praise.

Lodging

The South Side Baptist Tabernacle provides the best it can in the way of lodging for our guests. Separate  dormitories with showers are available for men and women. We also have a limited amount of cabins that are available by request. These cabins fill up quickly. There are 20 RV sites on the camp property with water and electric hookups. Lodging is made available to all those who are registered.

There are also several motel accommodations nearby as well as a KOA campground a few miles from our camp.

Facilities

Dormitories 
Dormitories with showers are provided for men and women.

Trailer Hookups
We have 20 spaces for trailer hookups for both water and electricity, no sewage. There is a dump site on the property. Additional spaces are available without water or electricity for either trailers or tents.

Concessions
There is a Snack Shop managed by our youth department throughout the day. The profits made from the Snack Shop is used for teen mission trips.

*The meals that are served have been provided by the members of South Side Baptist Tabernacle.
 
*Our Snack Shop will be open in the afternoons as well as after the evening service. We encourage our guests to stay and fellowship with one another.

Camp Achor Guidelines

We want to let you know that we are very glad to have you with us and trust that your time here will be one in which God will meet with you. The following items will help your stay to be profitable and help us to be of better service to you.

Everyone staying in the dormitory or a cabin is asked to fill out a registration form and pay $3.00 for insurance. If you are staying in a motel or with someone from our church, you do not need to pay this fee.

Concerning the Dorms:
  • Please keep your areas as clean as possible and be hospitable to others. Dorm lights should go out about one hour after the end of evening services.
  • No one under 18 years of age is allowed to stay in our dorms without adult supervision.
 
Concerning the Campground in General:
  • There is no smoking allowed anywhere on the grounds.
  • Please do not bring fireworks.
  • Please obey all parking signs.
  • In case of illness or injury, report to the kitchen.
  • A nursery facility is available but we do not have adequate staff to accommodate. Please feel free to use the nursery to care for your child. We ask that it not be used as a play area for older children. Parents please be aware of where your children are and of their activities.
  • Please respect the grounds and buildings.
  • There is no camping in tents allowed unless an adult is present in the tent during the night.

Concerning Apparel:
  • This is camp meeting but not camping out. We request that apparel worn to the preaching tent be suitable for regular church meetings.
  • We request ladies not to wear slacks, shorts or revealing tops (including halter or thin strapped) on the property.
  • We request gentlemen not to wear shorts or tank tops.
  • Please wear modest clothing at all times.

Concerning Services:
  • Please be respectful.
  • This is a family-oriented camp meeting, we request that children under the age of 16 sit with a parent or a designated sponsor.
